Jolly Phonics divides sounds into 7 groups through which the children learn to read and spell.
Children are taught the 42 main letter sounds through story-telling, actions and songs. Two letter sounds are taught on an average every week.
Using different multi-sensory methods like tracing in air & sand, on white/chalk board and finally using pen and paper, the children learn how to form and write the letters.
Children are taught how to blend the sounds together to read and write new words.
Listening for the individual sounds in words gives children the best start for improving spelling.
Tricky words have irregular spellings and sound so the children learn these separately to help them read. For example: he, I, again, there.
